About Me
I’m Amanda. Friends call me Mandi. I’m 27. I’m a proud Penn State alum. I work as a computer programmer/analyst (professional geek) and do some freelance web design/development from time to time.
I am recently-single and embracing that enthusiastically. I play “mama” to a rescue pug/beagle dog named Gracie and a shelter-kitty named Stuart. I love animals and would drag home every homeless critter I encountered, if I could.
Other than the obvious (knitting!), I enjoy traveling, photography, live music, and all things arts-and-crafts related.
I also blog at Life In Beta (my personal/life-blog) and Geeking Out (a blog about tech/geeky stuff).
Fiber Arts
I learned to crochet around the age of 6 or 7, but I’m not very good at it. I can do simple stitches but can’t follow a pattern to safe my life.
I had many (…many, many) failed attempts at knitting during my childhood. Finally, in 2006, I picked up a copy of Stitch ‘n Bitch: The Knitter’s Handbook and taught myself to knit using the directions in there.
… And thus the obsession began!
I’m particularly obsessed with sock knitting and am a huge sucker for sock clubs.
My knitting heros include Elizabeth Zimmerman, Cookie A., and Wendy Johnson.
I also spin — though not well. I have an Ashford Kiwi that I’m still trying to get the hang of. (I keep saying I’ll get back to it someday when I “have more time” — heh.)
