Rockin’ Socks and the February Lady

Happy Friday, everyone!  I, for one, am so ready for the weekend!  How about you?

I’m going to be spending my Friday night packing.  (Yuck!)  Yes… I know we technically moved into our house over a month ago, but the lease on our apartment isn’t up till the end of March so we’ve left behind a lot of things that weren’t necessities.  Now we have to go gather up all that stuff and move it.  I’m not looking forward to it, but it has to be done.

Geek in New Glasses

I got new glasses yesterday!  (Excuse the crap picture — it was late last night, so the lighting was low and I was using the built-in webcam on my MacBook.)  I had my eyes examined last week and it turns out that I’m slightly far-sighted in my left eye and extremely far-sighted in my right eye.  So I got glasses that are somewhat the equivalent of drugstore reading glasses, but the left lens is about +1.7 and the right lens is about +2.5 (even though it actually needs more like +3.5 — that would have been too drastic a difference between the two lenses).  They’re weird to get used to but I like them.  I wore glasses from the time I was 3 till I was 14, then contact lenses till I was 16, so I don’t mind having to wear reading glasses now… still better than glasses all day long!

February Lady Sweater Progress

I dug out my February Lady Sweater last night and started working on it again.  I love the pattern, love the yarn, but just can’t seem to make myself finish it!  If/when I do, it will be the first adult-size sweater I’ve ever made.

I’m trying to force myself to finish it because I decided last night that I really want to make the Blooming Scarf from the spring issue of Interweave Knits.  My LYS just so happens to carry a wide array of Cotton Classic, so I’m all set … but I just can’t justify buying all the yarn to make that till I finish something.  (Or at least that’s what I’m attempting to convince myself of…)

I did finish one thing last night, though…

Yes!  I finished my very first pair of socks from the Blue Moon Fiber Arts Rockin’ Sock Club!

Finished Rockin' Sock Club Jan. '09 Socks

Are they not fabulous?

The yarn is Socks that Rock Lightweight and the color is the January 2009 Rockin’ Sock Club Colorway, Singin’ the Blues.

The pattern was called Queen of Beads and was designed by Silvia Harding.

This was my first time working with beads on socks.  Really, I’d only attempted to knit with beads in general one time before, and didn’t get very far.  I was a little skeptical when this kit came in the mail, but I figured a sock club was the perfect opportunity to give bead-knitting a chance.  I am SO GLAD I did too!  I love these socks and think they’re going to be my new favorite pair to wear.  They definitely have a big “wow-factor” when you show them to people, yet they were surprisingly not that difficult and the pattern went really quickly.  (Though I think it was because I was speeding along to get to the next bead row, which was my favorite part.)

Now I can’t wait for the March shipment from BMFA, which should be going out next week…
